Argan Oil - The Liquid Gold

What's up!!!
What's up!!!
What's up everyone!!!

Today I'm blogging about my new found love:)  Argan Oil

Yes I absolutely love using 100% pure Argan Oil in my hair.  It leaves my hair soft and hydrated without the greasy feeling.

You can find 100% pure Argan Oil almost everywhere now but this particular brand can be purchased at my favorite spot. Yes, The Whole Food Market is where I buy all my essential oils, castile soaps and Shea butter.  Now I'm going to keep it real, this oil is a bit pricey but well worth it.  With this oil a little goes a long way so it's well worth your money.  Now that I said all that let me go into what Argan Oil is and it's benefits.

Argan Oil is a plant oil produced from the green nuts of the Argan tree which is an extremely rare tree found in small regions of Morocco.

This tree also grows sparingly in certain regions of Algeria and Israel.  Argan Oil is known for it's nutrition, cosmetic and numerous medicinally properties.  But for the purpose of my blog I will be writing about it's benefits for hair.

Argan Oil is also known as liquid gold because it has a high concentration of the following nutrients:
  • Antioxidants
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Essential Fatty Acids

Due to all these nutrients Argan Oil is an excellent moisturizing oil.  It's known to make hair stronger and healthy looking.  After one application of this oil you will notice results no matter what hair type you have.  For example, the oil was recommended to me by a co-worker who has straight hair and she loves it.  If you have not seen it yet check out the link below where I talk about how I discovered Argan Oil:

http://youtu.be/uIw6xyLZTSk

It's known to get rid of frizzy hair, split ends and restore damage hair. The oil will leave a remarkable shine to dull hair along with hydrating the hair roots making them soft to touch.  It not only prevents hair damage due to styling and outdoor activities, but also improves elasticity and reduces hair lost due to breakage.  The high content of vitamin E is very useful in restoring life to limp hair.  The unsaturated fatty acids help in strengthening brittle hair by bonding the protein structures that make up a hair strand.

Since I've been using Argan Oil I saved a lot of shirts from those ugly grease stains....lol....Even though you will feel a lot of slippage in your hair when you apply it, the oil is not greasy and it will not make your hair look sticky and oily.  If you like using oils in your hair or like giving yourself hot oil treatments try Argan Oil you will love it:)

That's all I have for you today everyone, thanks for your continued support and for reading my blog.

The Benefits of Rose Water

What's up!!!
What's up!!!
What's up everyone!!!

I hope everyone is doing well:)

Today I'm blogging about the benefits of Rose Water.

I absolutely love using Rose Water as a spritz for my locs.  It leaves my locs, hydrated, moist and soft.  Yeah! Yeah! I know I already mentioned the benefits of Rose Water already.  If you have not seen it yet, check out my "Let's Go Shopping Everyone" video below:
http://youtu.be/DulO3pyIMh4

I started using Rose Water because I saw a lot of youtuber's using it to moisturize their hair.  So when I saw it in the Wholefood Market one day I picked it up to try it.  Now I can't get enough of it!!!!!

Rose Water is basically a by-product of rose oil through the distillation of pure fresh rose petals.  In other words it's the water from rose petals....  You can buy it from the Whole Food Market for about $5.99 to $8.99 depending on the size or you can make it yourself:)))  I just started making it myself because I got tired of paying for it...lol...All you need is the following:

 DISTILLED WATER

 ROSE ABSOLUTE (in jojoba oil)

AN EMPTY SPRAY BOTTLE

I use an empty 4 0z. Rose Water spray bottle fill it up with distilled water and add 5 to 6 drops of Rose Absolute oil.  Shake to mix it altogether and you are done.  Keep in mind their are other ways to make it which you can find online, YouTube and Google.  I just find this to be the easiest and best way to make it.  Now that I explained to you what Rose Water is, where to get it and how to make your own. Now let me go into the benefits of using it.

Since ancient times roses were used for various reasons like perfume, medicine and nutrition.  For the purpose of this blog we are going to focus on its natural healing properties (the medicine portion) of roses.  Rose Water is a natural anti-septic, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory product which makes it perfect to treat most skin and hair issues.

For the skin Rose Water is a good cleanser and toner.  It's most often added to ointment to be used as an emollient or added to cold creams.  Rose Water can also be used to treat skin infections like dry scaly skin, oily skin, skin inflammation, dermatitis and eczema.

For the hair Rose Water soothes, nourishes, and revitalize the scalp thereby enabling smooth blood flow to the scalp.  It keeps the scalp cool and fresh, it also rejuvenates the scalp preventing inflammation.  Last but not least Rose Water strengthens the hair roots and promotes hair growth.  Therefore acting as a wonderful conditioner because it keeps the hair free from split, dry and frizzy ends.

If you are looking for something different, light weight and natural to use as a hair spritz try Rose Water.  It does not way down your hair, clog your pores or cause heavy build up like hair spray oils, leave in conditioners, hair creams, hair grease and most hair oils.

Keep in mind everyone, water is the universal moisturizer.  Any product that uses water as it's key ingredient is a very good option.  Anyway that's all I have for you today:)))

Thank you everyone for reading my blog and most of all thank you for your support.

Loc Update

What's up!  What's up everyone!  I hope everyone is doing well.  Today I just wanted to give everyone an update on my locs.  I'm very happy with how my loc's are growing and how they look:)))

Check them out in the pics below:

 Side View

Back View

See guys they are long, beautiful and healthy but just like the majority of loc wearers I discovered lint in my locs.  This was such a disappointing discovery that I actually concerned cutting my locs and going back to being a loose natural.  But after thinking about how far I've come in my loc journey and how far I want to go I decided not to cut them.  Bottom line I want my locs to grow down to my tailbone and I'm not giving up until I achieve that goal.

I just have to figure out how to get the lint out!  Yes I'm on a new quest to find a solution on how to get the lint out of my locs without destroying them.  Like I did one of my locs already using tweezers...lol....If you have not seen it yet checkout my loc update video below:

http://youtu.be/dA6GJUs9SME
In the video I showed everybody how I damaged that poor loc:((((

At first I thought I had lint in only one loc but I was seriously mistaken.  It was like five locs!!!!!  When I went through my hair to cut my two headed dragons (two locs combined to make one loc) I discovered there were other locs that had lint in them too.

The embedded lint in my loc

Poor loc:((

My trimmed ends and the two headed dragons I cut

Instead of attacking them with tweezers, I took a deep breath and said to myself, "I will find a way!"  On that note I decided to change my hair regimen.  Once a week I will clarify my locs after I wash them like I do now (For my current hair regimen, check out the current journey tab) .  The only difference is that I will alternate between using bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and tea tree rinses.

I'm hoping that by using the Bentonite Clay it will pull the lint and build up that is in the core of my locs to the surface so I can wash it out.  Then follow up next week with an acidity clarifier to get rid of the build up on the surface that did not wash out during the previous week's wash.

Also I decided that I wanted my locs to have a neater appearance.  So once a month I'm going to palm roll my locs and interlock every 2 months.  I figured since I have lint and build up issues anyway I might as well try something new.

Anyway that is all I have for you today:)  I will keep everyone updated on how my new hair regimen is working for me in a couple of months.

Remember to stay healthy, natural and happy!!!!!!

READ YOUR PRODUCT LABELS EVERYONE!!!

Do you know the ingredients that are in the shampoos, conditioners, oils, puddings, or sprays that you put in your hair?

Do you know how certain ingredients effect your hair?

Do you even know how to pronounce imidazolindinyl?...lol

I know I can't pronounce imidazolindinyl so it's not going in my hair!!!!

A lot of the chemicals that are in the products we use are very harmful and damaging to our hair. These chemicals are used to preserve the products so they can have longer self life. The health of the people that are using these products with these awful ingredients were never considered.

WOW thank you Corporate America!!!!

One of the reasons why our hair is dry, damage and breaking off is because of the products that we are using.

If any of the following ingredients are in your products throw them away!!!

Silicone

Cones

Para fens

Propylene Glycol

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

Isopropyl Alcohol (DS40)

DEA, MEA, TEA

Imidazolidinyl

Petroleum

Alcohol

Sodium Lauryl

Laureth Sulfate

Mineral Oil

These ingredients that I named above are just scratching the surface.  There are so much more out there. If you know of any other ingredients that I did not mention please let me know by leaving a comment.

That's all I have for you today everyone stay healthy and natural:)

OMG What Do I Do??????

Hi Everyone!!!!

I'm here to give you my tips on how I deal with hair drama.

Tip #1 = When my hair is hard and dry this means I have too much protein  in my hair.  So I would clarify my hair using one of my recipes listed under the recipe tab:)  Then I would give myself a nice homemade hot oil treatment.

Tip #2 = When my hair is greasy and oily.  This means I have too much product and oils in my hair that are too heavy.  Washing my hair twice with a clarifying shampoo and  then spritzing my hair with oils that's diluted with water is the best remedy for me:)

Tip #3 = Itchy scalp was one of my major issues when I was a loose natural and in the beginning stages of my locs.  I was over conditioning my hair and neglecting my scalp.  The best remedy for me is to clarify my hair to get a deep cleaning.  Then I would give myself a hot oil treatment with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and add a couple of drops of essential oils (ex. peppermint, lavendar, rosemary or ylang ylang).

I hope these three tips help you along your journey like they did me:)

Before I say goodbye, thank you and all that jazz I just want to let everyone know what I've been up to lately:)

First I have been busy updating the Loc Appreciation Day blog for qochemist.  That project took up a lot of my time but it was a great experience.  It was great working with qochemist and everyone involved in helping L.A.D 2012 become a success. I'm so thankful for being involved this year:)

On  Saturday 23, 2012 (L.A.D 2012) I was the featured blogger at the Natural-n-Sassy Hair Meet up.   Yayyy!!!!!!!!!  Wow it was such a great event and I was so nervous.  Yes Mrs. Diva Desert Locs was nervous...lol..
But the butterflies quickly disappeared when I saw my husband in the crowd giving me a thumbs up and the welcoming smiles of the amazing people in the audience.  I was able to advise everyone on how I retain moisture in my hair here in the desert.  And demonstrate how I make my hair butter for loose hair (natural or relaxed) that my husband loves using on his baldy.  The event went well and I will most definately do it again.

That's I all have for you today!!!!.  Stay natural and healthy!!!!

Thank you everyone for reading my blog!!!!!!!
