My Love For My Grandmother

The saddest day of my life was on 7/27/2013 when my youngest sister called me to let me know that my grandmother past away.  A lot of things ran through my mind.  First was the last time I spoke to her which was a refreshing conversation for me because I'm 5,000 miles away and it was great just to hear her voice.  I was missing her and she was missing me, the kids and my husband.

NOW I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO TALK TO HER AGAIN:(

First let me start off by saying my grandmother was the greatest person I ever known.  Any and everybody that ever came into contact with her instantly fell in love with her.  Even though I'm her granddaughter through married she treated me no different than any of her other children.  I remember the first time I met her technically.  She said to me "Ah shocks, I remember when you use to come in here and dig in my garbage."  I was a sassy 10 year old little girl at the time and was like what me?  She said, "Yes you use to come in here and go straight for the garbage all the time." We all started laughing. You see that’s how she was.  She always made people feel comfortable in her home and around her through laughter.  That's when she explained to me that she knew me since I was 9 months. At that time my mother had an apartment on the 2nd floor in the same building.  Our relation grew and flourished from that point on.  She taught me how to crochet, cook and tried to teach me when to keep my sassy mouth shut.  I've learned so much from her and I really appreciate having her in my life.

Thank you God for allowing my grandma to live a full life and for putting her in my life at the right time.

That's all I have you today.  Thank you everyone for reading my blog.  Stay happy, natural and healthy.

The Benefits Of Lavender Water

What's Up!!!
What's Up!!!
What's Up Everyone!!!

Lavender is one of the most widely used versatile herbs known today. It's extremely useful and beneficial that's why I love it.  It contains antibiotic, antiseptic, disinfectant, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it great for treating a variety of ailments.  Lavender essential oil smells great, the aroma is pleasant and soothing.

Check out some of the ways to use Lavender Water:

Spray a gentle mist on your face and skin to instantly refresh your mind   and body.
Mist before and after applying make-up, tweezing, or waxing to soothe and protect skin.
Mist for sunburns, bug bites, and rashes for quick pain relief.
Mist after your shower or mix with bath salts for a luxurious bath after a long day.
Use it as an organic air freshener.
Center yourself during a tough day at work.
Use organic lavender before and after yoga.
Make a clay mask by mixing lavender water with clay and oil for a facial mask.
Spritz daily to remedy wrinkles, acne, skin redness, stress and improve blood circulation.
Use Lavender Water Mist to prime, hydrate, blend with foundation, and use as the finishing touch to powder makeup.
Use to calm tense nerves at work and treat sore muscles after a long day.

Wow isn’t that amazing and beneficial?  What do you think?  Do you use Lavender Water and if so what do you use it for?

Please let me know in the comments below:)

The Benefits Of Shea Butter

What's up!!!
What's up!!!
What's up Everyone!!!

Shea Butter is the fat extract from an African Shea tree nut.  It comes in a yellowish or ivory color and it's very buttery.  I like to use the ivory colored unrefined raw organic Shea Butter from Ghana in my products.  From experience I believe it is the purest quality butter and I only want to offer the best in my shop.

I absolutely love Shea Butter because it's such a great moisturizing butter.  If you have eczema, stretch marks, dry skin or dry hair use Shea Butter it will definitely help fix it.  It's a natural antioxidant that contains vitamin A, E, and F.  You can use it alone, mix it with essential oils or just purchase my one of my body butters:)))

The body butters that I make and sale are great moisturizing agents for the skin and it can be used on dry brittle hair.

FYI.... I do not recommend using Shea Butter on locs or anyone that has a nut allergy....

If you are interested in purchasing one of my body butters or if you have any questions.  Please email at divadesertlocs@gmail or just leave a comment below.

That's all I have for you today everyone thanks for your continued support and for reading my blog:)))

Tropical Root Locking Gel Review

I'm a loc wearer who has been using Tropical Roots Locking Gel to re-twist my roots for the past two months.  I normally make my own products because it's so hard to find the right products for my naturally curly course hair. So when this product was gift to me I decided to try it and share my experience with you:)))

By Diva Desert Locs

The cost for this product is $4.49 for 6 fl oz and it's designed to maintain braids, locks and twist.  This gel can be found at your local beauty supply store and Sally's.

The front of the label advises the following:
  • New with Pineapple and Guava
  • Starts and maintains braids, locks, and twists.
  • Promotes healthy growth
  • No build up
  • Lasting hold with no flaking
  • Filled with natural ingredients
  • No dyes or artificial colors
  • For all natural hair styles
On the back of the label it advises the following:

With powerful essential energizing vitamins that strengthen hair and fight hair loss.
Tropical Roots Locking gel contains natural tropical ingredients to begin and maintain healthy lightweight braids, locks and twists keeping the hair frizz free with a natural luster.  Tropical Roots is filled with stimulating agents that promote growth.  Unlike other locking products Tropical Roots doesn't have any dyes or artificial colors.  The reddish color comes from a powerful hair vitamin that is also a brain nutrient.

The directions as listed on the label are:

To begin or maintain locks/twists apply Tropical Roots Locking Gel to damp unlocked hair.  Use a comb, fingertips  or the palm rolling technique to twist new growth clockwise.  Use clips to hold twists and section in place.  Next, sit under dryer until twist are completely dry.  Proceed to use Tropical Roots Growth oil on scalp and twist for longer lasting styles, manageability, moisture, luster and to promote hair growth.

I used the gel slightly different than the instructions and still got great results. While my hair was damp I applied the gel to my roots and palm rolled each loc. I used the no clips technique to keep the locs from unraveling and I let my hair air dry.

The gel smells wonderful, it's very clear and it rinses off easily with water which is a plus for loc wearers like myself. When I tested it on my fingers I noticed that it felt moist and when it dries it does not have a sticky feeling.

The gel did exactly what it stated it would do, it gave the roots of my locs a nice hold with no build up or flakes.  As far as hair growth my hair has been growing at a nice pace before I started using this product.  So for me I can not say my hair has grown more but I can say it will not cause your hair to break off or come out.  The hold that this gel provides is great and it does it without leaving your hair hard and crunchy.

Overall I think this product is very good and I will buy it on my own when this one runs out.  Out of  5 hearts I will give it a 4.

Check out my before picture below.  My roots are really thick and in great need of a re-twist:

Now check out my video on how it looked after I used the gel:
